 HEALTH SCREENING

Soft Coated Wheaten Terriers have been found to have a higher frequency than other breeds of certain serious diseases.  They are:

·        Protein losing Enteropathy (PLE)

·        Protein losing Nephropathy (PLN)

·        Addison’s Disease

Recommendations to owners and their veterinarians includes:

  1. Run the following lab tests:

1)      Complete Blood Count

2)      Biochemical profile, including:

·        Total Protein          

·        Albumin

·        Creatine

·        Bun

·        Cholesterol

·        Sodium (Na)

·        Potassium (K)

3)      Routine Urinalysis, including:

·        Specific gravity

·        Dipstick

·        Urinary sediment

4)      Urine Protein/Creatinine Ratio

A good time to have the above testing done is the same time you are having the heartworm check.
