The SCWTCA, Inc. Endowment Fund
is supporting the ongoing research into PLN/PLE in our beloved Wheatens.
As a part of this research, a Colony of Wheatens and Wheaten-Beagle Mixes
have been bred at North Carolina State University. It is hoped that this
Colony of dogs will help to determine the mode of inheritance of this
syndrome so that effective breeding programs can be designed that will
eliminate it. Additionally, the Colony will help to determine the early
manifestations of this syndrome so that affected dogs can be recognized
earlier and effective treatment protocols can be designed. For further
information, please check the North Carolina State website:

Gliadin is a 10-year-old female Wheagle. Some of the Wheagles look
more like Wheatens than our girl. You can see the pictures of the whole
colony at:

The SCWTCA asked the Motor City Club to adopt a Wheagle because the
grant that has supported the Colony up to this point is about to run out.
In order to continue this aspect of the research program, private support
is needed. The cost is $2,000 per year for each dog, so this is a
significant commitment for our Club. Several of the breeders who are
members of our Club have made generous personal commitments. Now we are
asking you for your help in order to reach our $2,000 goal. These dogs
will need our support for their entire lives. The donations are completely
tax-deductible.
We would appreciate your commitment for the life of Gliadin, or we
would be happy to receive a one-time donation. Gliadin has made a lifetime
commitment to help our Wheatens live longer, healthier lives. Please help
us support her in this effort. If you feel you need more information
before making your decision, feel free to contact
Carol Shaltz.
